Ladislava Gažiová graduated from the Atelier of Intermedia Confrontation (Ateliér intermediální konfrontace) led by Jiří  David at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. She won the Czech Critics’ Association Award for Young Painters in 2008. Her work often reflects themes related to the identity of Roma living in the Czech and Slovak territories.

Her own personal experience, Roma culture and way of life are rich sources of stimulus and inspiration, but also of tensions in relations with majority society. Ladia creates her paintings with stencils and spray. They are characterized by raw colors, conveying sadness, melancholy and wistfulness. With irony and sentiment, she approaches socio-political themes as well as more literary ones. She finds inspiration in comic books, street art, graffiti and oriental ornamentalism.
